I wrote this song as the soundtrack for the end credits of an imaginary spaghetti western sometime back in 2012 but never got around to finishing a recording until now. 14 years in the making! This song has been forged in the fire of hundreds of performances at this point. In the second verse there is a theme that comes in on keys and guitar doubled that is intended as an homage to Ennio Morricone's "Music Box" from For A Few Dollars More. This is the theme for Lee Van Cleef's character Col. Douglass Mortimer when he comes for revenge against El Indio. The song is vaguely about a female gunslinger who has betrayed the protaganist who lies dying, gutshot on the sand. Fire Burns A Little More Each Day could mean that passion grows like the heat of the fire, but it also could stand for the growing hatred and resentment the main character feels for the love that has betrayed him. It might just be that his love is actually the devil as "the hoof that crushed my chest belonged to the one I used to love". The meaning is up to you dear listener!
